Content Management System

What is CMS ?

A Content Management System is a software that enables you to manage your website without the knowledge of programming. Many of the CMS are available free of cost. What you need is just a domain and a server. Upload the CMS to your server and DONE !!!

Wordpress

Wordpress is the most popular CMS among others. Almost 25% of the internet has websites build in Wordpress. Simple User Interface, easy dashboard (admin panel), themes and plugins make this CMS the best. Make any kind of website with this.

Pros :  FreeSimple User Interface, Easy Admin Panel, Themes ( themes are templates / designs that your website will look like. Thousands of themes are available free and for the best, you have to spend some dollars. ), Plugins ( plugins are the add-ons that enhance the functionality of CMS. These are the additional features that help betterment of your site. ), SEO friendly ( Rank higher in Search Engines ).

Cons : Open Source ( open source means anyone can edit/modify the code. This enables hackers to find secret paths to hack websites.), flexibility ( wordpress is designed for less content. However if you would like to build an e-commerce, you are on your own. It is possible but is not easy.),

Joomla

Joomla is the next popular CMS after wordpress. The User Interface is a bit annoying but all in all the CM is good. Joomla is best for e-commerce.

Pros : Free, Themes ( like wordpress, Joomla also has thousand of themes to choose from ), Plugins ( Joomla supports third party plugins to enhance your website ), E-commerce ( Joomla is best know best fo e-commerce websites ).

Cons : Slightly Complex Admin Panel ( the admin panel of Joomla is slightly complex ), Everything is a Module ( your post, widgets, articles, comments and more; almost everything is a module. You have to further classify it ), Less SEO friendly( less seo friendly than wordpress ).

Many more CMS are available, but these two are the most popular and widely used among all. If you are planning to build an e-commerce website, do try Magento.

Magento

Magento is the eCommerce software and platform. It is an open-source content management system for e-commerce websites. The software was originally developed by Varien Inc. a US private company.

Pros : Totally customizable and can create truly unique stores, Scalable and flexible, Strong SEO, A full feature list gives fee-based, hosted carts a run for their money, Enables you to support more than one store.

Cons : Slow Load Time, Open Source, Themes may be Difficult to integrate.
